Oddly Amusing…

Evidently some of the Nigerian Scam Emails are beginning with “Dear in Christ…” which is just bad-enough English that it is becoming identified as tag on spam. It is also a phrase used by some Orthodox in writing emails… which could put reasonably normal emails into my spam folder.
So… where the heck does this come from? “Dear in Christ, Tommy” (which I think is short for, “Tommy, my dear brother in Christ”) Does any one know if the standard “Dear Jack…” is a contraction of this Christian Greeting or is “Dear in Christ” an adaptation/affectation of the secular usage?
