Inculturation

According to the Monk-all-over, The Roman tradition uses olive branches on Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. This sounds very cool. I had no idea the Roman Missal encouraged such cultural equivalences. This is also why the Russian Church uses pussy-willows. I would imagine that here, in NC, it would make more sense for use to use Dogwoods. I’m not holding my breath, however.
The cool part is the unstated assumption that *every city* is Jerusalem. Our Lord rides not into a city one two thousand years ago, but into every city, nearly weekely: and we reject him because he’s not what we want. We want a political activist or a cultural warrior or a stern judge or a liberal theologian or a strident supporter of “traditional liturgy” and, instead, we get silence and only love.
And, if we’re not careful, clean temples.
