Them is At it Again.

Interesting article over at Street Prophets, responding to one pointed out by Rod Dreher.
This other article makes a clear point and one that I rightly agree with.
The only hope of resisting the partisans of secular intolerance is to clean up the Christian Right (Catholic and Protestant), to purge it of jingoism, anti-intellectualism, and end-of-the world nihilism, then to break up its shotgun wedding to the hacks who run the conservative movement. The Christian Right must become less “Right” and much more Christian…
Amen to that! Both that article (and most writers on the Christian Right - including a good few post in the back pages of this blog - make much of an us vrs them attitude. The only difference in the linked article is that the Christian Right is beginning to devour it’s own supporters.
Street Prophets’ Pastor Dan seems to contradict himself, however.
For far too long, moral leaders on the right have pretended that the children of the light and the children of the darkness could be neatly separated into two separate camps: rich and poor, liberal and conservative, slut and virgin, gay and straight, black and white.
In fact the Left has done the same thing, at least as far as creating a Good/Bad, Us/Them list. The Christian Right is usually on the “Bad = Them” list. In fact, know it or not, the same Lord loves both of us: and makes no political agendas his own in that love. Beyond that, “us” is all of us - a decidedly leftist stance I know. Yet, as Pastor Dan says, “modern conservatism is based on a single, hideous lie: that we are not all in this together.” In fact we are - all of us, together.
In the end, this “Us/Them” issue, no matter how you split things up, may make of us a recently-living example of Ben Franklin’s “We must stand together are we shall surely hang separately.”

The good news is that God loves us — and there’s only us. There is no them.
The bad news is that we don’t see this.
Michael: yes! Bingo! Dead on! Now, if we could just get a few others on board… Y ddraig goch ddyry cychwyn.
