For what it’s worth, my trip to Mt. Athos was nothing but a blessing. Naturally, I’m aware of hearsay concerning the situation with Esphigmenou — but to condemn all Athonite monastics on that basis strikes me as being somewhat hasty.
You are right, of course: I would imagine the other monks would be just as ashamed.
I don’t think of major media outlets as heresay, usually, however.
