BoingBoing brings us reporting on two cases of free overcoming freedom:
Design a Counterstrike mod, get expelled from school
Webcomic artist fired from gov job over “terroristic” art
Both stories have to do with how fear - ramped up by the Virginia Tech incident - has gotten people to do bad things just because someone made them afraid. This is what gov’t focus on “terrorism” does: when I’m afraid I can call the Gov’t to come in and fix things. Another way to phrase that would be, “I’m afriad of you because you’re different. You’re bad and don’t deserve freedom.”
