Five Things I Dig About Jesus

I am stealing this meme and unleashing it within my personal blogosphere for pure mischief.
Those tagged must list five things they dig about Jesus and then tag some five more folks.
- Jesus really does love the marginalised. He also loves the non-marginalised. He loves beyond those simple, worldly rules - even when a given culture claims those rules came from God. He loves regardless of what the rules say are important.
- Jesus rarely teaches theology as we understand it - so rarely as to be able to imagine those instances to be later additions.
- Jesus does teach moral law as we might understand it. But he does it with a real twist: the ultimate law being love which, ultimately, leaves it up to us to work it out in the first person.
- Jesus does both of these rarely with straight-out propositions (which don’t seem to go over well with his listeners, any more than such would today). Rather he tends to do this with stories - parables. In fact, even the gospels that offer straight-out propositions say Jesus never taught anything save in a parable. The stories leave it up to us to answer any question asked.
- Despite what Jesus gets used for - by me or any other writer - his love is right there in most texts about him for anyone to see and try to emulate.

1) Broke down the law into 2 simple things. Love God, and Love your neighbor
2)Leads by example, and he does not ask his followers to do something he was not willing to do.
3)Always found a way to take care of the needs of others.
4) Was willing to stand up for what was right even when the crowds were against him.
5) A true reflection of our creator, for everything he did was for and by God.
This is a tough one - I use the word cool all the time, and the word Jesus, often together, but still. Hmmmm. ok:
1) He was all about love.
2) Tremendous historical figure along with the guy who invented the wheel, the guy who invented zero, Muhammad, and Genghis Khan.
3) His controversial popularity. By that I mean (and this to me is the greatest argument for the actual historical existence of Jesus) some very different groups all tried to claim him as their own. Imagine Dems, GOPers, Greens, Libertarians, Communists, and Perotistas all claiming one politician as their own.
4) The inspiration for Paul’s missions.
5) He was, after all, the Messiah.
