Oh. Joy. Dog of War. Rattling Sabres. It’s all so fun. Will we even have time for a presidential election next year? Mmm?
Via the NY Times: U.S. Weighing Terrorist Label for Iran Guards:
The Bush administration is preparing to declare that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps is a foreign terrorist organization, senior administration officials said Tuesday.
If imposed, the declaration would signal a more confrontational turn in the administration’s approach to Iran and would be the first time that the United States has added the armed forces of any sovereign government to its list of terrorist organizations.

To label the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization is incredibly dangerous to our troops. What if our SEALS and Rangers were labeled so? McCain and others are quite right when they point out that allowing “stress” positions is an opening to do the same to our troops and to label folks as enemy combatants without rights is to ask the same be done to any of our “covert” troops.
Like it or not, the Revolutionary Guard is a military organization within the country of Iran. Their international rights need to be protected every bit as much as the international rights of our troops. We keep our troops safest when we protect the troops of other countries, even the “terrorist” ones.
