Common Table

These folks look very cool: the Common Table Church in Vienna, VA.
The Common Table is a community of people who together are seeking to follow Jesus and reveal his Kingdom. We’ve been meeting since September 2001, until 2005 under the name Mars Hill Church, and have experienced a lot of change in our short history. The church was founded by a former Episcopal priest, but only a year after its conception that pastor left and we found ourselves trying to determine what God might have in store for us. We spent about a year in a sort of identity crisis - trying to figure out where God was leading us and whether we were meant to continue on as a church at all.
They seem to have grown a liturgical tradition based on hospitality and openness. I know another community or two that have done that! They have a huge list of blogs from within their community and I love that their “photo album” is Simpson Avatars :-)
Just a church-geeky side note: I find it funny when groups list the Nicene Creed as being written in the 4th century and then include the Filioque in the text.

Hey, thanks! (Sorry, just ran across this post for the first time in a random Technorati search.) If you’re ever in the DC area, please feel welcome to give us a shout or stop by. (But check our website first to find out where to find us on a given weekend.)
Also: good point about the Filioque. I just brought that up to the other members of our leadership team.
Peace!

Hey Mike, I’ll take you up on the invite! Thanks for stopping by…
I’d be very interested to hear what the result of the filioque talk is.
Just added your blog to my feeds.
