Be Poets of the Logos!

Sarx (σαρξ) is the Greek word for "flesh". This is the blog of a Southern Man (sojourning in Buffalo, NY) attempting to follow God in the way of Jesus.

NB: I'm currently on a "Blogging Sabbatical" to celebrate my 15th Year of online Journaling. While "Daily Tweets", the occasional review of a book, movie or eatery and Photo Blogging all continue, the daily posts have stopped until January 2011. All comments are currently in moderation.

Disclaimer

I who have written this story, or rather this fable, give no credence to the various incidents related in it. For some things in it are the deceptions of demons, other poetic figments; some are probable, others improbable; while still others are intended for the delectation of foolish men. Great O Antiphons Metapost

FOR Several years now I’ve posted a series of Meditations on the “Great O Antiphons” that were used in the western Church during Advent. There are enough of them to cover the entire season of the Nativity Fast (new calendar), if they are broken up into short periods of time and we use the odd 8th antiphon used in the Sarum Use.

The time is once again upon us! The season of Advent begins (for Eastern Rite) on 15 November and for Western Rite on 30 November (But if you’re using the RCL, I think a case could be made for starting on the 9th). I will once again be doing the Meditations on the Great O Antiphons, spaced out, as I do, over the course of the Eastern Rite fast. As will come as no surprise to a lot of you, I’m wrestling with doubt and confusion this year. So those topics will, probably, show up in my meditations.

But once again, I invite you to join me by posting your own!

The dates are as follows:

  • O Sapientia – 15 November
  • O Adonai – 20 November
  • O Radix Jesse – 25 November
  • O Clavis David – 30 November
  • O Oriens – 5 December
  • O Rex Gentium – 10 December
  • O Emmanuel – 15 December
  • O Virgo – 20 December

The full text of the antiphons is here, along with their traditional dates. Many thanks to Clifton! There is also a long essay on them in the wiki.
