One Dollar. This is how much I owe my former state of residence in taxes for last year. You’d think they’d provide businesses (etc) with a better algorithm or whatever it is, for the calculation of NC tax. I also owe them 25 Dollars tax on the car. Oy. I’m sure I won’t get a pro-rated refund, either. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t know that my $26 will go nowhere towards the benefit of the people of Western North Carolina. All the revenue in the state gets siphoned into the welfare pits of the Piedmont and the flatlands. Meanwhile, Asheville is left to fend for herself in the areas of water and (total lack of) urban planning and Buncombe county sacrifices all the mountain sides to the Gods of Housing and Sub-prime.
When I moved to NY, the first thing I did was report my new address to the Feds by filing my tax return - within 24 hours of arriving in Buffalo. Everyone was told that that’s important, you remember. That’s why old people are filing tax forms this year. They’re going to contact us at the address we use on that tax form…
Today I got the letter confirming my rebate from the gov’t: the $600 per person that will cap W’s legacy of fiscal irresponsibility. The letter had been mailed to my address in NC. In other words, what we were told was a bit of a lie - they paid no attention at all to the forms I filed this year (2 months ago, now). They sent my return to the right address, but they sent the letter to the wrong one.
Ah. Gov’t.
I know that other places pay higher taxes. But they get more for their money.
