Liturgy Geek Invite

Hey, fellow Liturgy People:
I’ve received permission from the author and the copyright holders to edit and serialise “Worship at St Gregory’s” onto my blog. This document offers up the historical research and liturgical justification behind most of the community’s practices at St Gregory of Nyssa parish in San Francisco. (My editing will involve putting the extensive footnotes into the main body of the text.)
I’ve already done the portion on the Creed - other posts will show up in the same category
My desire for posting it is to generate a lively liturgical discussion: to this end I “pre-invited” a few folks who I think of as fellow liturgy geeks.
But I have an educational goal as well: Many people treat the practices at SGN as sort of the property of SGN; a parallel thought is “We could never do that here”. I feel this is an error. No one at SGN thinks all liturgy should look like theirs. Some of the traditions developed by those folks are useful everywhere; but more important the research and attitude behind the traditions are, as one rector pointed out to me, an Anglican attitude to liturgy. While such liturgical experimentation might not be useful for everyone, I like the idea of using my blog to widen the discussion. I hope you’ll all feel welcomed to participate.
I’m looking to start later this week, with the introduction. The full text, unedited, can be found here
