Argument from Hooker

Ruth blogs that the Archbishop of Armagh calls for rethink on gays using not “the usual irritatingly woolly way we have come to expect from Anglican liberal bishops, but in a rigorous, faithful fashion, drawing directly on Richard Hooker’s Lawes on Ecclesiastical Polity“.
I posted my comments over there but, in essence I say that most such discussions quickly devolve to shallow emotionalism on both sides. As we quickly see from the comments over there which, in short order (comment #2), boil down to name calling. Comment 1 appeals only to simplistic calls to “come to Jesus”. Neither addresses the theological arguments offered. In such manner the Roman Church treated John McNeill in 1976 and the Evangelicals treated Virginia Ramey Mollenkott in 1978. Shortly, on the left, I expect to hear that the Archbishop didn’t go far enough and that he really is a homophobe in purple clothing.
I look forward to reading the Archbishop’s talk. But I wonder that he uploaded it in Word format! PDF, Dude! (erm, PDF, Yer Grace!)
(Update 15 mins later): I see, in fact, the arguments have devolved as predicted, complete with appeal to the historically untenable position of sola scriptura, murder, etc. Sigh.)
