Fasting - Lentils and Yams

VIDENTLY The ancient Romans liked to mix black Pepper and Honey as a flavour combo. This sounded interesting to me. But I also had a free sample of McCormick’s Worcestershire Ground Black Pepper Blend. So off to the kitchen I went.
- 1 Yam, peeled an cut into cubes.
- 1 Cup uncooked lentils
- 1.5 cups of water or veggie broth
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 2 tsps (or to taste) of McCormick’s Worcestershire Ground Black Pepper Blend
Preheat oven to 350
- In a small covered casserole, combine all ingredients. no need to stir.
- Cover and place in oven for 35-40 mins.
That’s it.
I’ve begun to love cooking in a covered casserole. It keeps all the moisture in. My favourite: 1 cup each of wild rice and lentils and some water - cook for 45 mins. Maybe add some veggies. I shall try that next with this Pepper and Honey thing.
Btw, near as I can tell, this pepper blend is vegan. Those of you who lament the Lenten loss of Worcestershire b/c of the Anchovies shoudl rejoice!

Huw,
I know you’re not around but wanted to extend the invite anyway:
BlogAsheville netizen,
See you Friday?
Coincidentally… I’ll be there for Bele Chere this weekend, with my Mom. I’ll see if I can convince her a party is good Friday evening!
Thanks for the invite!
