Democratic Esoterica

T COMES To me today, as I’m driving up from North Carolina that the current political climate could be sketched out in Tarot cards, using both the esoteric and exoteric meanings. (This is your brain, this is your brain after 13 hours driving, any questions?) This is a work in progress…
- The Fool, Barack Obama
- The Magician, Al Gore
- The High Priestess, Statue of Liberty
- The Empress, Columbia (the Gem of the Ocean)
- The Emperor, W
- The Hierophant, James Dobson
- The Lovers, The Clintons (look at the card’s picture)
- The Chariot, the Election itself
- Strength, Elizabeth Edwards
- The Hermit, John Edwards
- Wheel of Fortune, the Media
- Justice, Condi Rice
- The Hanged Man, The Republicans (all of them)
- Death, Any one of several other “also rans”
- Temperance, Michelle Obama
- The Devil, Jeremiah Wright
- The Tower, WTC on 9/11
- The Star, “change” “hope” and other political slogans
- The Moon, the economy
- The Sun, we don’t have one of these!
- Judgement, Election Day
- The World, the Oval office
Update One notes that it would be tempting to put the Republican Nominee on this list at a couple of places, but one fears that the Secret Service has little understanding of the esoteric meanings of certain cards and even less of a sense of humour in these matters. This is their job, and it’s ok. I recognise that this list could easily be written from the other side of the aisle with a lot of changes save I doubt Mr McCain would fit in the “Fool” slot.
The first correspondence in this set to suggest itself to me was the Tower = WTC on 9/11. Not because of the picture, tho. Read the meaning of the Tower to see why. This one card is an essay on why 9/11 happened and it’s been sitting in the Occult Library for several hundred years waiting to be read.

That is soooo clever !
I once sketched out a Supermarket tarot deck based on well-known brands, which was quite amusing……..
Obama as the Fool and Condi as Justice? Explain your cryptic choices. I don’t worship at the altar of Obama, keep in mind, but I don’t think he’s a fool in the sense of being naive and inexperienced. He strikes me as being the opposite, like a Henry IV except he gives the appearance of being a saintly fool rather than a drunken fool. He’s not necessarily a Eugene Debbs or a King Henry VI. As to Condi or anyone in the bush administration representing Justice, ?!!!
The fool is not a comment on brain but rather on new beginnings. Obama is a new beginning in any number of ways - not the least because he is the first of several races to get into such a position.
Here’s a good quote from the wiki:
Justice is also not a commentary on her job (although “emperor” is a commentary on W) so much as it is on her person - call it an assumption about her person away from the black hole of the President. I’ve nothing but respect for her. I rather think an Obama/Rice would rock.
Also behold the keywords (also from the Wiki), I think they ably describe the Ice Maiden:
Impartiality —– Distance —– Coldness —– Justice
Objective mind—– Criticism —– Being clever —– Insensitivity
Decision —– Intellect —– Analysis —– Realism —– Severity
Responsibility —– Rationality —– Clear vision —– Logic and reason
Very interesting. I didn’t know much about Tarot before this (thank you for the helpful links), but the archtypes seem to be full of wisdom. The offsite link explaining The Tower was particularly interesting. It described the card as the one no one wants to get, etc, and I had to laugh.
Am I the only one who actually *enjoys* watching her towers fall in her life? Can’t be. As the offsite explanation goes on to say, it’s only once the tower that we built up has fallen is the inner eye opened and we see clearly again, for the first time.

Good entry.
