Manchurian Candidate

N 1931 Japan manufactured an “incident” and used that event as an excuse to invade China. Japan claimed that she had been attacked and the resulting invasion was only to protect herself from the horrid Chinese. In fact, it was a land grab for oil and resources.
The US has recently pulled the same trick: using WMD which never existed and which increasingly we know was a ruse promulgated exactly as an excuse to invade Iraq. And now Russia is doing the same thing. In fact, if we call them on it, I hope Russia has the unmitigated gall to say, “You point a finger at us, but 4 more are pointing back at you…”
In all three cases the local gov’t was acting in ways the invader didn’t like. In all three cases the invader claimed a specific danger that was manufactured or blown out of proportion. In all three cases, despite the clear evidence, propagandists *still* insist there was a reason and refuse to admit “we” were wrong. In two cases a puppet gov’t was set up to do the bidding of the invader. We’ll see what happens in Georgia.
Glad to see that history repeats itself so regularly.
