The point is well made that his mom is a bit over the top. While it is true that one cannot be the King or Queen and not be Anglican, that affects only one family in Great Britain. In everything else, RC's fully participate in the life of the country.

But, we have the same type of extremism in this country as well. How many people were threatening to move to Canada last election simply because their candidate did not win? And what about the people on the right or left, from Posse Comitatus folk on the right to pacifist tax resisters on the left. All of them act as thought the violation of one of their principles gives them the right to opt out of the social contract. They are continually surprised when they are convicted and jailed for simply "exercising their rights."

The little boy was trained by his mom, the woman above cited. We can only hope that, as he grows up, he retains the desire to stand faithfully for what is right, without the type extreme viewpoint expressed by his mother.

What his mom is implying is that Roman Catholics can't be loyal citizens of the United Kingdom, which would probably be a shocker to most RCs living in the UK. Or, perhaps, if Betty II was trying to take over the RCC in Britain, but since that's not the case...

Something seems fishy about this...this isn't the kind of normal thing that 8 year olds do-rather, it reeks of his parent wanting to make a statement. Anyhoo, it seems like what the mom is saying veers quite close to treason-literally, the dictionary definition of it. I wouldn't start adding him to the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales or anything just yet...

I hope that as he grows older he will retain his commitment to follow his convictions against pressure. I do not agree with this particular conviction, but am incredibly impressed with the young boy.
