Stories I’m not hearing

DEAR Pseudo-Lefties: I confess I had a smidge of hope for a brief moment. I let myself smile and even ate some delicious cake frosted with the Obama Logo. That was in November. Now, however, I once again see a moral equivalence between the stupid party and the evil party. And the dupes on either side.

Please contact NPR or whatever publicity organ you wish to support and tell them we need more hard-hitting News Stories on President Obama’s whole-sale selling out to be just another Washington Politician.

1) We marched into Afghanistan last week – where are all the protests?
2) The Messiah President has spent a huge percent of his time travelling. Where are the cries for him to stay at home and help us to fix problems?
3) The president takes his family on these multinational business-tours. At our expense.
4) The president has caved on every major lefty political offering he made.
5) Washington is engaging in an Orwellian-style newspeak to cover up all the lack-of-changes in policy.
6) Washington is continuing to engage in the Bush-era policy of corporate welfare.
7) Unemployment is nearly 10% nationally. It’s not been there since Nov-Dec of 1982.

I’m not saying anything bad, per se. Some of this may be his fault (the travel, for example) but much of it is simply the failed policies of a previous administration being carried forward. He’s a politician just exactly like any other. He’s clearly better at it than Bush. But I’m wondering at your lack of integrity and your lack of ability to call him on his bullshit. My God, we were singing “Yes we can” in Sunday services a few months ago! You’re in denial.

In other words: I’ve no reason to believe you, pseudo-lefties, any more: You’re as easily duped by his political manoeuvres, from Gay-rights activists up to ANSWER and other communist front orgs, as the right-wingers are by Bill O’Reilly. I agree with you on many of President Bush’s policies: they suck. But your guy is sucking now and you’re not saying much.

All that has happened in this country is that the blue people are complacent and smiling and the red people have become the counter-culture protest folks.

We’ve done nothing, changed nothing, fixed nothing.

What is annoying is that some red people thought Bush was a more Christian President than Obama would be. Some blue people thought Obama would be much more Christian than Bush. Both sides fail to see that all the President can be is a politician: that is his religion, that is his deity, that is his apotheosis. And unless you see that – voting or not, vegan tree-hugger or pro-war Republican – unless you see that, you’ll only be duped again.

The first sign that we couldn’t trust Barry (or Hillary or George) was that they wanted the Job.

Laying it on a bit thick, no? The man’s had the job for six months. It’s funny how his detractors accuse his supporters thinking of Obama as a Messiah (I haven’t met any that made that claim), but then chide him for not working oodles of messianic miracles his first five minutes in office.

I’m not talking about him. I’m wondering why no one who supported him is talking about him.

And why – more to the point – the Christian left (not the secular one) hasn’t at least woke up and got on with the Gospel instead of still hoping that Obama will one day go to a liberal church and get everything right.

The Christian Left is exactly a mirror image and moral equivalent to the Christian right. Scary, mobbish and willing to cede to the gov’t the duties of making a world that God has given to the Church.

  • I think this is masterfully expressed in this little cartoon strip which I pulled from Fr. Ernesto’s blog: http://robertthomasllizo.blogspot.com/2009/04/ahh-yes-i-like-logical-thinking.html

  • It seems to me that instead of a third Clinton term, we’ve been given a third Bush term. The only thing that has “changed” is the fact that we have a Democrat for a president instead of a Republican. Who knows, maybe it’s time we resurrected the Whigs for more variety.

I would consider myself a growing number of Obama supporters who are starting to feel a little uneasy about his handling of the economy (the massive handouts to old-time corporations who’ve proven themselves unreliable and criminal rather than investing in new economies and up-and-coming entrepeneurs and bankes with fresh ideas and hands untainted by the scandals that got us into this mess), his handling of Iraq and Afghanistan and his stand-pat, do nothing stance towards social issues like gay marriage. Uneasy, but not disappointed nor surprised.

I supported Obama not because he preached the change I could believe in but because a Mccain Presidency (not to mention a Palin Vice Presidency) was just too much to risk (we would probably be at war with Iran right now if he were president).

As much as I want change to happen, I realize one man can’t do it by himself. There are massive and wealthy forces in Washington, the board rooms of corporate headquarters, media newsrooms and the halls of the Pentagon that have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are. The problem is that we have a public that is too overworked to bring about change. The only thing most of us have time for when we get home from our day of toil is entertainment, and the American media gives us just that.

I still have hope for the future, though, because I believe in a God of Justice who still has the power to energize people through the Holy Spirit. This is what the church needs to do: inspire and energize people to bring about the change we need and can believe in because it’s backed up not by a man (albeit a very intelligent one) but the maker of the universe.
