ACCORDING to the Project on Excellence in Journalism, last week, a third of the stories on U.S. TV were about Iran pre-death, but after the death of Michael Jackson, 93% of cable news programming was dedicated to news on Michael Jackson. Media Swing from Protests in Iran to the Passing of the King of Pop.

It used to take bread and circuses: now it only takes circuses…

  • Worse, we have again shown that every so American tendency to leave people hanging. Under the cover of Michael Jackson, Iran was able to finish the job of repression.

    I finally went to the BBC news to find out what else was going on in the world. There, Michael Jackson had a place on the front page, but only a place as part of the many stories they report on.

    Yes, the day he died, a friend of mine and I were going back and forth between CNN and BBC, and BBC had occasional 2 minute updates on Michael Jackson and then went back to what was going on in Afghanistan and Iran. CNN? 100 % MJ and no mention of Afghanistan or Iran. I felt ashamed and feared for my country…
