Interesting to find out that Seals & Croft were Baha’i: so also were England Dan and John Ford Coley. Other 70s stars were also influenced by this religion which seems to be the “Quaker/Inner Light” form of the Islamic tradition, “quiet pentecostalism” like Hasidism is for Judaism.

Which one is Tony, which one is Orlando and which one is Dawn?

I just purchased the entire first season (1976) of Wonderwoman off of the iTunes Music Store. 14 hours of Classic TV for $24 isn’t too bad. Lynda Carter… in her satin tights, fighting for our rights. I was a devout watcher of this show when I was in Jr High School. We won’t get into the True Confessions aspect but suffice to say that in 1976, everyone should have known.

A Desktop image for your amusement:

Stars on Desks..

A writer once theorised that gay kids preferred Bewitched to I Dream of Jeannie. Strangely enough nearly everyone on Bewitched was either queer or involved in queer-activism in the 80s and 90s. I liked the Jeannie show too because it involved Astronauts - I wanted to be one when I grew up.

Anyway, I digress. I think all my friends, gay and straight, had an attachment to Lynda Carter. (And yes, Lyle Waggoner was pretty hot.)

AT40 Music Trivia Quiz

Posted in 70s, other geekery by Huw

From 14 April 1973:

In April 1973 “All In The Family”, “Sanford & Son”, and “Hawaii 5-0″ were leading the pack on TV, and “The Godfather”, “The Candidate”, and “The Poseidon Adventure” were leading the pack at the Academy Awards. Meanwhile in Hollywood the king of all countdowns Casey Kasem was preparing his weekly American Top 40 show so you could hear the biggest hits in all the land!

Here are the lyrics. Name the songs. As always, fewer words mean I think you’ll find it too easy; and the answers will show up Monday night. Deodato’s Also Sprach Zarathustra (radio version), a funky instrumental, was in this countdown at #14. This gave Mr Kasem a chance to expound on the Zoroastrian prophet. He did this without mentioning any of the other religious themes that popped up in this countdown - which I found interesting. Duelling Banjoes was also in this countdown: no lyrics though. Pity, cu’z you sure do have a pretty mouth…

NPR has posted this Rilly Trippy Acid Flashback to the 70s… documenting on the history (and reunion) of “The Family” and their founder (now dead, and not at the reunion) YaHoWa13… It’s a three-parter and here’s a link to part 3: YaHoWa13: A ’70s Spiritual Rock Commune Reunites. That page has links to parts one and two. There are some amazing pictures as well. It’s an interesting view of the spiritual energies that also brought us the Jesus Freaks, the Vineyard movement and the Evangelical Orthodox movement (and thus much of modern US Antiochianism).
