Yummy Ideas

OK, so most of the post is about a trip to Israel and some very serious thoughts on Israeli Culture. But breakfast sounds wonderful.:
In the beginning, God made breakfast. In my personal theology, especially as it’s effected by the the Land of Israel, that breakfast consists of a couple different yogurts, fresh avocado, [...]

Fichuelas de Hanukkah

Reposted with a photo of this year’s batch

Because no one can get enough fried foods… This wonderful recipe is from The Hanukkah Book, by Mae Shafter Rockland. Released first in 1975 and again in 1985, it is now out of print. I’ve had my copy since 1985 (I picked it up when [...]

Sour cream and caviar is the best-ever toping for latkes. Better than applesauce!

Hot and Spicy Cream Cheese Brownies - K. Dairy

Dagoba Xocolatl is organic cocoa powder plus hot chilies. It’s very tasty. I wondered what sort of brownies it might make.
I did realise that this would require some experimenting. I found a recipe that started with cocoa powder and adjusted it: the Xocolatl already has some sugar in it. So I [...]

Something for Thanksgiving

OK, Ok. I know. It’s like clipping recipes RIGHT out of the paper. But this Corn pudding in a pumpkin looked too damn good to pass up. Since I’m going to be alone on Turkey Day (and have to work - so no drinking) I think this may be just the Vegetarian [...]

2 smoked trout diced up

1 can of Campbell’s [...]

Flaxulence

Toasted about 3/4 a cup each of steel-cut oats and flax seeds in the taster oven. The flax seeds started to pop like corn! Added this toasted mixture to my sourdough brioche recipe.
Yes!

Failed…

Some things work. Some do not. I was making cornbread last week and didn’t have any cheddar cheese for my usual recipe. I did have ricotta however so I added a cup of it. Ricotta works well in bread (we’re currently eating our way through two loaves of such - very [...]
