Peace Loving Hippies

ER HOST Is here with Brodie in Hamilton, Ontario, for the monthly Art Crawl on James Street North. Last night’s trip up and down the strip was crowded. After last month’s wash out, I think everyone in the area took advantage of the balmy night to come look at local artists.
Serious props are [...]

Too Rich

AM watching Into Great Silence. I’ve managed to make it about 45 mins into the film. It’s beautiful. I’ve wept…
But - as perhaps a mark of my own ineptitude in the monastic life, I have trouble staying focused on it. So I’ll come back to it later.

Like Sinatra in his younger days.

One of my favourite tunes of all time is The Dream Academy’s 1985 hit, Life in a Northern Town. I like the song, mind you. But there is something about the actual tune, the chord progression…
First, take the orignal:

Misty, haunting… when it came out, I was living in NYC, 3 years out of High [...]

If I may suggest…

I greatly enjoy the Jeeves stories of PG Wodehouse. Librivox has two sets of stories, read by the same reader and free for the download. While the reader is American (and thus some of the British-isms are lost) the stories are most enjoyable on my iPod and in the car.

Smarter than I Thought.

News reaches us today that the Final Harry Potter Book will be released as two movies rather than the one-for-one being used on the other 6. Thus there will be 7 books and 8 movies.
You may remember that I complained about too many words in the final book. In fact, I noted the [...]

Yummmmm

Drink Local! And if you’re in the Buffalo/Niagara region, that means Johnnie Ryan Beverages.
Johnnie Ryan beverages are made of the finest extracts and flavorings available, and still sweetened with 100% pure cane sugar, just like our grandfather and his two brothers did, over seventy years ago.
I had some of the best Root Beer ever [...]

Church Review

Following a sign (more to follow) I visited St Andrew’s Church, Buffalo.
They are “the” Anglo-Catholic parish of Buffalo, having been founded by a priest who was later driven from the diocese for the innovation of candles actually on the altar: the horrors! Can you imagine? It’s like Fr Brent used to [...]
