Just Awesome

I went to Amazon expecting to find this out of print. It’s not. 365 Ways to Cook Chicken is available again. Which means I can recommend to you one of the best single-item cookbooks I’ve ever owned.

This was one of the first cookbooks I purchased back in the 80s? 90s? when it [...]

Cooking Show Manifesto

I want a cooking show…
Where the host moves slow. Where there are no ultra cool hyper fast code words. You want Extra Virgin Olive Oil then say Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I don’t need to know you’re afraid of saying “Virgin” without laughing out loud, Rachel.
I don’t need a lot of fancy jazzy camera [...]

Plot spoilers

I said I’d wait 7 days. Seven days ago I finished reading HP7 and I didn’t like it. I liked it for 2 reasons: the outline of the story was good and there are, basically, no loose ends left.
I was disappointed because of the way in which JKR got us there.

Death Eaters in the Parking Lot.

I attended the Noon Matinee of the new HP Movie today at the local. It cost $6.50 for admission plus another $10.50 for popcorn, Raisinettes and a coke. I’m still tasting the corn and feeling dehydrated. But I love it so, especially when the Raisinettes melt and the whole thing becomes a [...]

Sunday afternoon beers

Todd and I tried He’Brew for the first time this afternoon. Hey, it’s Sunday - why not try something Kosher? Todd and I are in agreement regarding the general points following reviews although he may differ in the finer points. Once home, chilled and poured into a fine beer goblet, the drinking [...]

Cul-cha

If you want to monitor the state of - mostly white and allegedly middle class - culture in America. Watch “The Food Network”.
Bad English (along the lines of W’s “nookular”).
Bad fashion (thinkdDress-up day at Wal*Mart).
Bad food (imagine Family Circle with added salt).
Right now I’m watching a white trashy housewife (Sandra Lee) [...]
