Pray for Birmingham
OT SURE if this link to a LiveJournal Community will work, but there is GOOD NEWS coming out of Birmingham!
This year's Sunday of Orthodoxy is going to be incredibly special in Birmingham, AL. Peter Gilquist is coming to speak at our tiny Antiochian Mission.I am especially joyed by the news of the Bishop's conversion and the news of possibly TWO new WR parishes... Ernesto, you listening?
We're going to be having a procession of the Icons, and the most important part will be the visitor's which will be involved.
Two continuing Anglican Churches will be in the crowd (One from Birmingham and one from Montgomery); both are seriously considering becoming Western Rite Orthodox churches, seeing that their Bishop is in the process of conversion.
Later that night, there will be a Pan-Orthodox meeting between the Greek, OCA, and Antiochian churches in the area, where Father Gilquist will speak again during a Vespers service.
Everyone try to keep Birmingham in your prayer intentions, seeing that two whole congregations are making such a monumental decision.
Glory to God for all things!

I'm trying to find a way to say YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAA! in Latin. That's great news!
Hmm ... this is great news (!), but don't expect the guest speaker to say a whole lot in favor of the WR.
I did see that Irony, Ben, indeedy! That's why I was calling out for Ernesto - to put a better spin on it, or perhaps to undo any damage!
Robert - I believe there are Latin translations for several important southern phrases in some Latin Phrase books I seem to remember from the early 90s... "Latin for All Occasions", Henry Beard.
Hmmm,
I know both the bishop, with whom I have talked more than once, and the rector of the parish in Birmingham, with whom I have talked more than once. I had not mentioned anything in this forum because I thought that private talks were more important for the moment. But, yes, the substance of the announcement is basically true. More news will follow later as appropriate, but for now I will maintain a respectful silence.
There is no need to worry about the speaker, as he will be very positive about the WR. Fr. Peter is a friend of mine, whom I have known since the days when he was Pastor Peter, living in Tennesee, and playing the banjo while wearing blue jeans and boots.
The bishop has been coordinating with one of the Western Rite archpriests and Fr. Peter is aware of the ongoing, but unfinished, talks.
In passing, I am also the cantor at that small Antiochian mission, (Church of the Annunciation) and sometimes during communion, and during the reverence of the cross at the end of the service, the Arabic mission priest lets me sing WR hymns. Oh, and that priest has already met with the priest at the Anglican parish here in Birmingham.
However, do pray pray pray pray pray pray. There is a spiritual battle going on in the heavens, which is not of flesh and blood. In Latin America we have a saying that the devil sometimes, "mete la cola." That is, the devil sometimes sticks his tail in. Well, that has happened already a time or two. So, please pray, pray, pray.
Tiz a tiny world. And a smaller Church.
May our Lady of Walsingham pray for all of us - and especially for those Anglicans!

Yes, I was given that book as a gag birthday gift. Awesome and hillarious!!!
Ernesto-What WR hymns do you sing? I especially love the Veni Creator Spiritus during Pentecost.
Ernesto,
Could you advise what Anglican parish is being referred to here? If it must remain private for now I can understand that.
For the moment names must indeed remain private because of the uncertainties that have crept in in the last couple of days. I did mean it when I said that our old enemy esta metiendo la cola.
And, as we know, anything posted on the web will sooner or later make the rounds. I would not care to have it make the rounds that I "leaked" information, especially since I desire to enter that priestly ministry of which my Anglican priesthood was a taste and a foreshadowing. No one is worthy of the priesthood who cannot maintain silence.
Ernesto,
Thanks for that reply. May God bless and keep you as you seek to serve Him.

That is pretty cool! Lord have mercy on them and bless their journey.
